Young Buck Released From Contract

After complaining about being 'blacklisted' due to his contractual obligations to G-Unit Records, Young Buck has finally been released from his contract. 50 Cent has reportedly let his former G-Unit compatriot out of his deal, which means Buck can officially release music on his own. In April 2008 50 Cent announced on Hot 97 that Young Buck was kicked out the group, but was still contractually signed to G-Unit. Since that time, Buck has been unable to release any commercial music.

Buck's inactivity has led to financial problems--the IRS even raided his home earlier this summer--and bitterness towards G-Unit, Aftermath, and Interscope Records. The rapper is reportedly working a new single called "My Campaign", produced by Drumma Boy.

''Takers'' Just Misses #1 Spot

Action flick Takers just missed the number one spot during it's opening weekend, losing by a hair to horror flick The Last Exorcism. The heist film, which featured a bevy of young stars including Michael Ealy, Hayden Christiansen, R&B star Chris Brown, Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Idris Elba, and rapper T.I. (who also was a Producer for the film), grossed $21 million in over the weekend, just below ...Exorcism's $22 million take.

Earlier on Friday, it looked as though Takers was going to be the clear-cut number one on the first day of the weekend, but as box offices closed on the west coast, The Last Exorcism had overtaken it, albeit not by a wide margin. Many attributed Takers' strong showing on the east coast to it's largely African American cast appealing to predominantly African American moviegoers in eastern cities like Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C.

Movie theaters were quiet over the weekend, with ticket sales for the Top 12 films down 11 percent compared with the same period last year.
